Two men were hospitalized Tuesday night, one in critical condition, after their pickup was hit by a Trinity Railway Express train, Fort Worth police said.

The westbound train came up behind the pickup at a “fast speed” at the Mosier Valley Road intersection about 9 p.m., said officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman. As the pickup driver tried to get off the track, the truck rolled over and was struck by the train, Segura said.

The train pushed the truck into a wooded area where firefighters had to use special equipment and a rope system to pull them out, said firefighter Kyle Clay, a Fort Worth fire department spokesman.

Clay said the train hit the truck on the driver’s side.

The driver and passenger, both in their 40s, were transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth at 10:07 p.m., MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said. One was in critical condition and the other was stable, he said.

None of the train’s 43 passengers were hurt, Zavadsky said.

The train’s passengers remained at crash site well after 10 p.m. By 10:50 p.m., the train was headed to the Centerport Station where passengers were to get on another westbound train, TRE spokeswoman Laura Hanna said.
