Police found a 34-year-old man shot to death near the front of an apartment Tuesday morning after they heard gunshots in the East Fort Worth neighborhood, police said.

No arrests had been made by early afternoon.

Marcus Howard, of Fort Worth, was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

A ruling on the man’s death has not been made, but relatives and police said the victim was shot.

Officers patrolling the neighborhood in the 1400 block of Amanda Avenue heard the shots shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday and searched the Cavile Place Apartments within seconds.

“They located where the shots came from and found the body,” said Officer Daniel Segura, a police department spokesman, on Tuesday. “People in the area also scattered.”

After finding the body, officers searched the nearby apartment for any other victims, but found none.
