Three Fort Worth drive-by shootings related, say police

Detectives want help identifying suspects involved in three drive-by shootings, including one at a home where a 92-year-old woman escaped injury.

Authorities said they believe the shootings, which began in February, are related to one group of suspects. Gang detectives are investigating.

No one was injured in the shootings, the first of which was reported at 2:40 a.m. Feb. 13 in the 1100 block of East Annie Street. Residents said their home was hit by gunfire.

A second shooting occurred at 1:23 a.m. April 22. A gunman opened fire on a vehicle parked in the lot at Hattie Food Store, 1137 E. Hattie Street. Three houses near the lot also were hit.

The most recent shooting was at 2:15 a.m. April 28 at a residence in the 1100 block of East Annie Street, next door to the one that was shot up Feb. 13. More than 20 shots were fired at the house where Susie Bonner, 92 and her 71-year-old daughter live.

Bonner was sound asleep early April 28 when the sound of gunfire jolted her awake. She jumped out of bed and ducked for cover.

Later, investigators counted at least 20 shots fired at the tiny house. Bullets shattered windows, a mirror and a front glass door. At least three bullets went into Bonner’s bedroom.

“I’m doing pretty good considering what happened,” Bonner told the Star-Telegram on the day of the shooting.

Bonner and her 71-year-old daughter, Laura Ruth Boatley, were not hit.

Family members said they believe the shots were fired at the wrong house.
