Wendy Davis becomes a grandmother
Former state Sen. Wendy Davis has a new title: grandmother.
Davis, D-Fort Worth, announced the birth of her granddaughter on Facebook.
“Ellis Tate Davis-Erdel (my first grandchild!) arrived on Friday the 29th of April,” the 52-year-old Davis posted online. “She has stolen my heart completely!!!”
Davis, a former Fort Worth city councilwoman and 2014 Democratic gubernatorial nominee, noted something extra special about the birthday of her granddaughter, born to daughter Amber Davis.
“She shares a birthday with Willie Nelson,” Davis wrote.
Davis is a longtime fan of Nelson, the legendary Texas musician who performed at a 2014 fundraiser for her, when she was for governor.
Davis, who gained nationwide attention in 2013 for an 11-hour filibuster against restrictive anti-abortion legislation in Texas that later became law, recently left Fort Worth and moved to Austin.
Since the campaign ended, she has been doing a variety of work, including giving speeches and campaigning for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Davis said she’s “in awe of what an amazing mother my daughter Amber has already become. Such a blessing!”
Wendy Davis has long talked about her life story, growing up with a single mother and how she, by age 19, was a divorced single mother working two jobs and raising her child as they lived in a trailer park. She has talked about struggling to pay the bills, even as she was determined to succeed and create a better life for her children.
