Shootings leave three dead in two days in Fort Worth
A man found shot to death on a porch early Monday is the third homicide victim in Fort Worth in two days.
In the other two cases: A woman critically wounded Sunday morning died in the operating room at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth a few hours after she was shot, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office website.
And a 54-year-old woman died Sunday morning after she was shot in the head, according to the medical examiner’s website.
Police have released few details on the homicides and no one has been arrested.
In the most recent case, just before 1:30 a.m. Monday patrol officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the 5100 block of Fitzhugh Avenue in southeast Fort Worth. On arrival, police found a man in his 40s dead on a porch.
Officials at the medical examiner’s office said Monday that the victim has been identified, but they were not releasing his name pending notification of relatives.
The two women were gunned down early Sunday.
One shooting was reported at about 3 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Selene Street. The woman critically wounded in that shooting, who was pronounced dead at 7:52 a.m. Sunday in the operating room, was identified as Bianca Jimenez, 23.
A suspect has been identified, police said.
The first homicide occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2900 block of Northwest Loraine Street.
In that case, patrol officers responded to a shooting call. A preliminary police report indicated that a caller said, “Mom shot,” and heard six gunshots in the home on Loraine Street.
The woman was identified as Maria Cortez, 54, who was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital.
Detectives also have investigated two other deaths in the last two days.
Officers responded to a report early Monday of a deceased person in the 1000 block of Silver Spur Lane in northwest Fort Worth.
“A female was found deceased due to unknown circumstances,” Officer Brad Perez said in an email Monday. “It is still currently under investigation.”
Her name also had not been released by authorities.
On Sunday afternoon, a 53-year-old Haltom City man with a gunshot wound was pronounced dead at the scene after reports of gunshots at 7400 Teal Drive. His death was ruled a suicide on Monday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
