Separate Fort Worth shootings leave one dead, one critically injured
A night of shootings early Sunday left one woman dead and another in critical condition, police said.
A suspect has been identified in a 3 a.m. shooting on Selene Street, but not in the killing of a woman on Northwest Loraine Street. Officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Maria Cortez, 54, who was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital.
In that case, patrol officers responded to a shooting call at 1:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Northwest Loraine Street. A preliminary police report indicated that a caller said, “Mom shot,” and heard six gunshots in the home on Loraine Street.
The second shooting was reported at about 3 a.m. in the 1300 block of Selene Street.
Officers who went to the scene found a 25-year-old woman with an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities did not release her name.
