Fort Worth man accused of killing man, hiding body in car’s trunk
A 28-year-old man has been arrested on a capital murder warrant in the slaying of a man whose body was found last year in the trunk of an impounded car.
Chance Guilluame Jefferson was arrested Wednesday. He was in the Mansfield Jail Thursday night with bail set at $500,000.
He is accused of fatally shooting Bob “Jacc” Alexander Brown, 39, during a robbery and then putting Brown’s body in the trunk of Brown’s car.
Brown was reported missing March 11, 2015, by his girlfriend.
She told police that Brown was still in bed when she left for work about 7 a.m. March 10, according to a police report. She said she became concerned after she did not hear from him all day and later learned that he had not picked up his child from day care.
Brown’s car, a white Mitsubishi Gallant, was also missing, she told police.
Officer R. Gomez, assigned to the missing persons unit, later determined that Brown’s car had been towed on March 10 by Capital Towing to an impound lot at 1000 Canton Drive in east Fort Worth, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram.
On March 13, Gomez went to the impound lot. Inside the car, he saw possible bloodstains on the back seat, according to the affidavit, written by homicide Detective E. Pate.
“Gomez checked the trunk of the vehicle and found the body of a deceased black male,” Pate wrote.
Pate and Detective J. Cedillo later learned that on the day Brown went missing, he had been seen driving with Jefferson in his car and making drugs deals around town.
Police believe that while they were at an apartment complex on Weiler Boulevard, Jefferson pulled a gun to rob Brown and shot him multiple times. He then put Brown’s body in the car’s trunk and moved the car to another location at the complex, where it was later towed.
Thursday night, Brown’s family issued a statement recalling him as a loving son and brother who was the father of two daughters. Brown was well-liked in the Polytechnic Heights neighborhood where he grew up.
“The family would like to thank the Fort Worth detectives for never giving up...,” the statement said. “Now we can have some closure.”
Tarrant County records show Jefferson has felony and misdemeanor convictions for possessing cocaine and marijuana, as well as assault with bodily injury and failure to identify.
