Teen arrested in indecency case at Weatherford library
A Parker County teen accused of indecency with a girl in the Weatherford Public Library was in custody Wednesday after he was arrested when he returned to the scene, Weatherford police said.
Weatherford police identified the suspect as John Michael Hoffman, 18, of Parker County.
During an interview with police, Hoffman confessed to touching the girl at the library, 1014 Charles St. in Weatherford, on Monday afternoon, police said.
Hoffman was arrested Tuesday afternoon, just hours after he was seen and stopped at the library, Weatherford police Commander Chris Crawford said in a Wednesday news release.
“A Weatherford police detective on scene at the library was notified by a staff member that a subject matching the description of the suspect had entered the library,” Crawford said. “The detective made contact and after conversing with the subject for some time, the subject was voluntarily transported to the police department and interviewed.”
Hoffman is expected to be charged with indecency with a child with sexual contact, a second-degree felony, Weatherford police said.
The mother of the middle school girl reported Monday that her daughter had been inappropriately touched while at the library. The mother told authorities the incident took place in the teen section.
The girl told Weatherford police that a man approached her claiming to be a college student studying skin tones. At some point, the suspect put his hands under her clothing.
The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The girl told authorities that she did not know the suspect and had not seen him previously at the library.
Hoffman was in the Parker County Jail Wednesday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
