Fort Worth man indicted on kidnap, rape charges involving Abilene girls
The sex offender accused of kidnapping and raping two teens in January was indicted Thursday by a Tarrant County grand jury.
The indictment charges Robert Blaine Harris, 50, with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to Tarrant County district clerk records.
Harris was arrested Jan. 9 and has remained in the Tarrant County Jail with his bail set at $100,000.
His next court date has not been scheduled.
Police said Harris lured two Abilene 13-year-olds from their homes and drove them to Fort Worth, where he kept them for a week and raped them.
The two girls, who were reported missing on Jan. 2, were found Jan. 9 at a Fort Worth home on the city’s west side where “criminal activity had occurred,” said officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman.
One of the girls told the Star-Telegram in a phone interview that the suspect befriended her on Skout two to three months ago. Skout is a social media site for meeting new people.
“I thought we were just going to stay with him a day or two,” the teen said in January. “He had other plans.”
One of the teens said Sunday that she had been having problems with her mother and Harris became her friend on Skout.
“He was fun to talk to,” the teen said.
The Star-Telegram generally does not name accusers in sexual assault cases and does not name juveniles most cases.
Texas Department of Public Safety records show Harris is a registered sex offender.
DPS records indicate Harris, while in the military, was charged in 2006 with two counts of indecent assault against a 32-year-old woman and a 29-year-old woman.
