Fort Worth police arrest Denver murder suspect

A 24-year-old suspect in a fatal shooting on March 9 in Denver was arrested this week at Fort Worth’s Intermodal Transportation Center as he got off a Greyhound bus.

Keon Anthony Nixon is accused of shooting Tarell Burton, 18, and wounding Berniece Serrano, 20 as they sat in a vehicle in the 3300 block of Cherry Street, said Lynn Kimbrough, a spokeswoman for the Denver district attorney’s office.

Serrano has serious injuries and was still hospitalized on Friday, Kimbrough said.

Nixon faces murder and attempted murder charges.

Fort Worth police received word that Nixon was coming to Fort Worth on Monday on a bus and officers were waiting at the Intermodal Center, 1001 Jones St., said Sgt. Steve Enright, a Fort Worth police spokesman.

Detectives watched Nixon get off the bus and then arrested him, Enright said.

He remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Friday evening. If Nixon waives extradition, he could be back in the hands of Denver authorities in two to three weeks, Kimbrough said. But if he fights extradition, the process could take as long as three months, she said.

No information on a possible motive for the shootings was available, Kimbrough said.
