Forecasters calling for patchy frost in some North Texas counties

Spring is not off to a hot start in North Texas.

Temperatures were cold on Sunday morning in some counties and the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth issued a frost advisory for some areas. Residents in Gainesville woke up Sunday to a low of 33 degrees and Bowie had a morning temperature of 32.

At the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, it was 39 degrees at 8:30 a.m.

Those temperatures were not close to the record for March 20 which is 19 degrees set in 1965, but the temperatures are below the normal lows for this time of year. The normal low is 48 degrees, according to the NWS office in Fort Worth.

“It won’t be as cold on Monday morning, but the temperatures will still be in the mid-30s,” said meteorologist Juan Hernandez at the NWS office in Fort Worth on Sunday. The record low for March 21 is 27 degrees established in 1965, according to the NWS office in Fort Worth.

The high temperature for Sunday should reach 56 degrees under sunny skies and winds from the north at about 10 to 15 mph.

Daytime temperatures will be like a roller-coaster in North Texas for the rest of the week. It starts with a high predicted of 69 on Monday and goes to 81 on Wednesday before a cold front arrives Thursday, bringing with it chances for showers and thunderstorms.

The best chance of rain is at 30 percent on Wednesday night ahead of the front. There’s a 20 percent chance of rain on Thursday morning.

The front also has cooler temperatures with it. On Thursday, the daytime high could be 61 degrees, a drop of 20 degrees from the day before. High temperatures on Friday will be in the mid-60s.
