A firefighter was hit by a piece of debris Friday while working a house fire in far north Fort Worth.

The firefighter, a man in his late 40s, is expected to be OK. He was taken by ambulance to Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, fire spokesman Kyle Clay said.

“He was complaining of some pain, but he was able to walk out to the ambulance on his own,” Clay said.

Fire units were dispatched to a home in the 3800 block of Cannonwood Drive at about 11:15 a.m.

Clay said the injured firefighter was likely hit in the head by a piece of drywall.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters had to put out flames in the attic, near the back of the house. Five people have been displaced until repairs are made, Clay said.
