More than 100 apply for top Fort Worth schools job

A total of 110 people from 43 states are vying for the top job in the Fort Worth school district, officials said Tuesday.

In a closed-door meeting Monday, school board members reviewed video interviews with the top applicants. They were conducted via Skype by the Iowa-based search firm Ray and Associates, which the board hired in August.

The board expects to interview candidates in a few weeks, and a new superintendent could be named by Feb. 1, board President Norman Robbins said Friday. The names of candidates are not being released.

By law, the board must wait 21 days after it announces a top candidate before it finalizes a contract.

Nancy Ricker, an educator who retired from the Fort Worth district three years ago after serving as executive director for parent and public engagement, is helping the board with the interview and selection process, she said.

Walter Dansby resigned as superintendent June 2. Interim Superintendent Pat Linares has led the district since his departure.
