Warm, breezy weather in store for Sunday, possible rain early this week
Get out and enjoy the warm temperatures on Sunday because the forecast for leap day is a chance of stormy weather, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Highs for Sunday will remain in the mid to high 70s, lows in the mid 50s. Partly cloudy and gusty, wind speeds will stay around 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, meteorologist Dennis Cain of the National Weather Service in Fort Worth said Sunday.
The storm system will bring in slightly cooler temperatures late Monday night, early Tuesday morning with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
Cain predicts Fort Worth will not see any severe weather, but areas to the south and east of Tarrant County are most likely to get strong storms.
Best chances for rain are likely overnight Monday into early Tuesday. The chance for rain is low, 20 percent chance on Tuesday, Cain said.
The Dallas/Fort Worth Airport has seen 3.24 inches of rain so far this year, 2.20 inches which came in the month of February. The area is down 1.44 inches from normal rainfall for this time of year, Cain said.
“We won’t get near that much with this storm system,” Cain said. “Less than half an inch of rain expected to come from this system in the area.”
The rest of the week looks mild with partly cloudy, breezy days and highs getting back up into the 70s Wednesday.
“The models have been hinting at some bigger rain systems for the middle part of next week but that’s still a long ways off to know for sure,” Cain said.
