Cowtown runners beware: I-35W near downtown will be a logjam this weekend

Interstate 35W near downtown Fort Worth will be clogged this weekend, which could present a few problems for runners trying to get to the Cowtown Marathon.

What little is left of the Spur 280 bridge over I-35W will be demolished, bringing on a flurry of lane closings.

The work will shift “all traffic to the new bridge,” said Tommy Williamson, spokesman for the North Tarrant Express 35W project, which is reconstructing I-35W from near downtown north to Loop 820.

Lane closings include:

9 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday

▪ Northbound and southbound I-35W — reduced to one lane in each direction at Spur 280.

▪ Connector from eastbound Interstate 30 to northbound I-35W — closed, and traffic directed to Rosedale Street.

▪ Connectors from southbound I-35W to eastbound and westbound I-30 — closed. Traffic will be directed to Rosedale.

9 p.m. Saturday through noon Sunday

▪ Northbound and southbound I-35W — reduced to one lane each direction at Spur 280.

▪ Connector from eastbound I-30 to northbound I-35W — closed. Traffic will be redirected to Rosedale.

Alternate routes for Cowtown participants

For Cowtown Marathon participants trying to get the Will Rogers Memorial Center, which is where the Cowtown events will start Saturday and Sunday, we suggest:

▪ From north Fort Worth, take Loop 820 west to I-30 and take the University Drive or Montgomery Street exit, and head north toward the Will Rogers Memorial Center.

▪ From south Fort Worth, take Interstate 20 west to I-30 and take the same exits.

▪ From I-35W (and this would be a last resort), take the Northside Drive exit, then head west until Northside turns into University. Stay on University until Lancaster.
