Kia driver killed in fiery Denton crash on I-35

The driver of a black Kia died on Interstate 35 in Denton on Monday afternoon after the car rear-ended an 18-wheeler and caught fire, according to Denton police.

The wreck was called in at 2:06 p.m.

The car hit the 18-wheeler and went under the trailer on northbound I-35 at mile marker 475 near Rector Road, said officer Shane Kizer, a Denton police spokesman.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tarrant County medical examiner will release the name of the driver once relatives have been notified.

Police shut down all lanes of traffic on northbound I-35 from Milam to Rector roads until 4:20 p.m.
