Eighteen units were damaged, one person had minor injuries, and three pets were rescued when Fort Worth firefighters battled a 2-alarm fire at the Sandshell at Fossil Creek apartments Sunday.

The fire call came in at 4:38 p.m. A total of 25 Fort Worth fire units and 80 personnel were sent to the north Fort Worth complex in the 5700 block of Sandshell Drive off Fossil Creek Boulevard, fire spokesman Lt. Kyle Falkner said.

Falkner said he was not sure Sunday night how many people would be displaced or for how long. American Red Cross workers were working out the details with the apartment manager.

The fire was limited to one building and the southwest corner of an adjacent one within the complex. Two of the 18 units had only smoke damage.

A puppy, Varo, and two cats, Freja and Harlow, were rescued and returned to their owners unharmed.

A man had minor burn injuries to his hands but was not taken to the hospital, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.

Arson investigators were at the scene to determine the cause.
