Robbery suspect fatally shot by officers outside Fort Worth motel
An armed robbery suspect was fatally shot Friday afternoon as members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force attempted to arrest him in west Fort Worth, authorities reported.
David Glen Watson, 53, of Azle was confronted by officers outside the Landmark Lodge Motel, 7501 Camp Bowie West Blvd., according to news releases from the marshals service and Fort Worth police.
“Watson allegedly drew a firearm and engaged with law enforcement,” the news releases said. “Watson was pronounced dead at the scene.”
At the scene were two Fort Worth police officers, a deputy U.S. marshal and a Weatherford police officer, according to the Fort Worth police release. Neither news release said how many shots were fired at Watson or by whom.
Watson was wanted on an aggravated robbery warrant issued in Hood County, where he was a suspect in the armed robbery of a Cresson convenience store Sunday, the Hood County Sheriff’s Department said.
Cresson is about 15 miles southwest of Fort Worth on the corners of Hood, Johnson and Parker counties.
Fort Worth police will lead the investigation into the fatal shooting, the news releases said. No officers were injured.
U.S. marshal task forces call on federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to help locate and arrest fugitives, according to the agency’s statement.
