The survivor of a shooting last week that left a 33-year-old man dead has now been charged with capital murder in the case.

Johnny Bevels, 24, of Fort Worth was charged Tuesday with capital murder in the robbery and fatal shooting of Robert McGill. He was being held Wednesday in the Mansfield Jail with bail set at $800,000.

A second man, 23-year-old Tydrick Calton, was arrested Tuesday and also faces a capital murder charge in the case. He was also being held Wednesday in the Mansfield jail in lieu of $800,000 bail.

The shooting occurred Jan. 28 outside a duplex at the intersection of Rosa Court and Patsy Circle.

Responding officers found Bevels lying in the yard with a gunshot wound.

About 15 minutes later and about 1  1/2 miles away, a motorist flagged down patrol officers at McCart Avenue and Southpark Lane, seeking help for McGill, a passenger in the car. McGill was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. from gunshot wounds to the right arm and chest.

Bevels was arrested Saturday on a capital murder warrant.

Calton was free on bond on unlawful possesion of a firearm by a felon charge and possession of under two ounces of marjiuana when the slaying occurred, Tarrant County court records show.

Homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman declined to comment Tuesday on whom investigators suspect shot Bevels and other circumstances behind the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.
