Temperatures to drop after Monday in North Texas
After a warm weekend of 70-degree weather, temperatures will begin to drop Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Monday’s high is expected to be 74 degrees, but the weather service is predicting freezing temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
Weather service meteorologist Jennifer Dunn said the balmy temperatures weren’t unseasonably warm.
“Actually it’s not out of the ordinary for us to be in the 70s in January,” said Dunn. “The storm system has been north of us, so the cold air hasn’t moved into Fort Worth.”
Cooler weather likely is on the way for February and March, Dunn said.
“They’re predicting us to remain below normal temps the next couple of months,” she said. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be freezing weather, just below normal. Normal is highs around 58 and lows around the mid-30s. We will still have periods of weather where it’s warm into the 70s, but we may get cold fronts."
Dunn said ice and snow usually arrive after January.
“Typically when we get weather events, ice or snow, it’s in February or as late as March, so we consider our winter months through February and into March.”
