If you’re headed out later Thursday, grab an umbrella.

The cold, dreary weather is going to stick around for the rest of the day, with wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph and temperatures dropping into the 30s.

“We can’t rule out a rumble of thunder or two but most of the rain should be pretty light,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Lamont Bain.

A few places could see close to a half-inch of rain but most will see far less. No ice or snow is expected.

After a record-breaking year for rainfall in 2015, North Texas has seen lighter totals with the start of the New Year.

Through 10 a.m. Thursday, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport had recorded 0.86 of an inch of rain since Jan. 1, which was 0.44 of an inch below normal. Bain said it’s too early in the year to draw any trends from rainfall totals.

Besides the rain, it will also feel colder by late Thursday.

DFW Airport’s high temperature of 52 degrees was recorded at 3 a.m. By 10 a.m., the temperature had dropped to 44 degrees at the airport and should keep dropping the rest of the day.

It’s going to be a cold, miserable day with winds blowing 20 to 25 mph.

“It’s going to be a cold, miserable day with winds blowing 20 to 25 mph,” Bain said. “But we think the precipitation will end before we get close to freezing.”

Once the rain ends late this afternoon, the next chance of rain won’t come until the middle of next week.

It’ll be cold early Friday, with a low near freezing, warming up to the mid-40s.

By Sunday, highs will be in the 60s.
