An 18-year-old Fort Worth man was arrested early Wednesday in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man Tuesday afternoon.

Cameron Joseph Jennings was arrested about 2 a.m. at his home in the 4600 block of Birchbend Lane in far north Fort Worth.

He is accused of shooting Nathan Herrera-Lunsford about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday as Lunsford stood in the roadway in front of Jennings’ house.

Lunsford was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office listed his address as in North Richland Hills.

Jennings was in the Mansfield jail Wednesday night with bail set at $250,000.

Fort Worth police declined to provide further information about the shooting.

Last month, Jennings was sentenced to six months of deferred probation on a possession of marijuana charge, Tarrant County court records show.

Lunsford graduated in 2012 from Keller Central High School, where he played basketball and football and ran track, said Brian Aldridge, who was married for 12 years to Lunsford’s mother, Jessica Lunsford-Aldridge.

When Aldridge learned of Lunsford’s death, he said, he scrambled to contact her. She has been traveling in Mexico this month, and he finally reached her late Tuesday.

“It was really in that moment that it became real for me, too,” Aldridge said. “I didn’t hold any emotions back. How do you tell someone something like that?”

Nathan Lunsford had a 15-month-old son and an interest in aquatic animals, Aldridge said. On family trips to Sea World, he swam with dolphins.

By Wednesday night, a GoFundMe account had raised more than $3,800 for funeral expenses. A candlelight vigil was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Central High School.

“He could make anybody laugh and smile,” Aldridge said. “That was probably his greatest gift. It’s the one thing so many of his friends are echoing on Facebook, so many people I never knew existed.”
