A Fort Worth code compliance officer was attacked by two women Monday while she was taking photos of trash outside their house, a police spokesman said.

The officer was in front of a house in the 3200 block of Ross Avenue in north Fort Worth when the women came out and asked her what she was doing and began “verbally threatening” the officer, said police spokesman Daniel Segura.

The women started hitting the officer with their hands and “possibly a stick,” Segura said.

To protect herself, the code compliance officer used what Segura believes was a pocketknife and cut at least one of the women, he said.

Code compliance officers don’t carry guns or Tasers, he said.

“It’s not a surprise that people get mad at them because they will give you a ticket, so you do see they are always being challenged,” Segura said.

MedStar took two injured patients to local hospitals in separate ambulances, spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.

Segura said the officer was treated for bruises and scratches, and one of the women was hospitalized with a “minor cut.”

The woman will be booked into jail after she is released from the hospital and will face charges of assault causing bodily injury, Segura said. Her name and mugshot will be available at that point.

Segura said her charge could change depending on what detectives find out.

The code compliance officer and her supervisor could not be reached to comment Monday night.

The other woman had left the house by the time police arrived at 1:40 p.m.

“We know who she is,” Segura said. “It’s just a matter of time to write a warrant.”
