A 20-year-old passenger in a pickup that flipped over a guardrail on East Loop 820 at Ramey Avenue Sunday afternoon has been identified.

Edgar Valenzuela, 20, was ejected from the cab and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:36 p.m., the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office reported.

Authorities originally said that the crash involved three women — one who died, one who was hospitalized in critical condition and another who was in serious condition.

However, the only woman in the truck was the pickup’s driver, officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman, said Monday.

Witnesses told police the three people were in a Dodge pickup on southbound East Loop 820 when another truck driver suddenly hit the brakes, Segura said.

“The [Dodge] driver lost control of her truck and began to swerve, colliding with the metal guardrail and causing the pickup to flip several times,” Segura wrote in an email.

Valenzuela, who was in the back seat, was ejected, he said. A man in the front passenger seat was also ejected. He was transported to Texas Harris Methodist Hospital in critical condition, Segura said.
