Fire heavily damaged a house in Wedgwood Friday morning, but seven people made it out without injury and three dogs were rescued, fire officials said.

The blaze was reported about 6 a.m. in the 5400 block of Whitman Avenue. It caused significant damage before it was extinguished, Battalion Chief Mark Hunka said in an email.

One of the residents of the house rescued a dog, and firefighters rescued two others.

The fire was an accident, Hunka’s email said, but the cause was not reported and a damage estimate was not available. — Domingo Ramirez Jr.
