A Fort Worth police officer is on administrative leave for shooting a suspect multiple times after the suspect raised a pistol at police late Saturday night.

The suspect, Jeremy Daniel Rainwater, 34, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief. The name of the officer will be released Monday, police said.

The incident started at about 9:45 p.m., when officers responded to a shots fired call at the Dublin Square Pub near Interstate 35W and Western Center Boulevard in far north Fort Worth.

An argument occurred at the restaurant, and the suspect went to the parking lot and fired a gun at an unoccupied, parked vehicle, police said.

Officers identified the suspect, and then went to the suspect’s residence nearby in the 6700 block of Friendsway Drive. As police approached the home, the suspect “emerged from it with a pistol in his hand,” police said.

The suspect raised the gun and was ordered by officers to drop it to the ground. The suspect refused and was shot multiple times by one of the officers, police said.

The Fort Worth Police Department Major Case Unit is conducting a criminal investigation. The department’s internal affairs unit will conduct an administrative investigation.

The officer is assigned to a tactical unit and has been with the Fort Worth department since September 2010.
