A cold front dipped into North Texas early Tuesday, bringing much-needed rain and lower temperatures.

Dallas/Fort Worth Airport received almost half an inch of rain, the most this month, bringing the yearly total to 21.31 inches — 14.22 inches below normal.

There’s a slight chance for more this weekend, but it certainly won’t translate into a white Christmas, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Most of Tuesday’s rain was gone by lunch, according to the weather service. Tuesday’s high was 53, and the overnight low was expected to drop into the mid-30s.

On Christmas, breakfast temperatures will be in the low 30s, but it will be sunny with a high in the low 60s. For the record, the warmest Christmas in the area was 78 degrees in 1934. The all-time low on Christmas was 6 degrees in 1983.

Christmas Day will be followed by mostly dry conditions Friday. Morning temperatures will be in the mid-40s, and daytime temperatures will return to the low 60s.

Friday night and Saturday will bring a 20 percent chance of rain.
