Fort Worth pair sentenced for meth trafficking

A Fort Worth couple was sentenced to federal prison Monday for their roles in trafficking methamphetamine from Mexico to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the U.S. attorney’s office reported.

Gabriel Farias-Lopez, 37, and Kimberly Robles-Rueda, 20, were sentenced to 17 years and seven years, respectively, by U.S. District Judge Reed C. O’Connor, according to a news release.

When stopped by Fort Worth police on June 23, the two had about four kilos of methamphetamine “ice,” and Robles-Rueda has about $8,000 cash in her purse.

After police obtained a search warrant for their residence on Travis Avenue, they found liquid methamphetamine and more meth ice that weighed about 3 kilograms combined, the press release stated.

They also found $25,000 cash.

Farias-Lopez had received kilograms of meth from a source in Mexico and distributed it in the Dallas/Fort Worth-area. Robles-Rueda collected the drug money and sent the proceeds back to Mexico in $1,000-increments, according to a Drug Enforcement Administration investigation.

She or another person deposited the money or wired it into various back accounts to be sent to bank accounts in Mexico.

Farias-Lopez plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess meth with the intent to distribute in August. Robles-Rueda pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
