A man was in critical condition Sunday night after his mobile home caught fire, authorities said.

Fort Worth firefighters arrived at the fire in the 1800 block of Edgecliff Road at 4:06 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the kitchen and an unconscious man in the back bedroom, said Lt. Kyle Falkner, a Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighter Kurt Howard found the man with a thermal-imaging camera and got him out of the house with help from other members of the fire crew, Falkner said.

The fire was declared under control in six minutes, he said.

The Engine 10 crew tended to the man for several minutes until paramedics arrived, Falkner said.

After the fire crew and MedStar paramedics worked on him, the man was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital awake and breathing, Falkner said.

Nine fire units responded with about 25 fire personnel.
