Fort Worth dad accused of lying about razor blade in Halloween treat

An arrest warrant has been issued for a father who reported finding a razor blade in his kid’s Rice Krispies Treat after trick-or-treating because detectives determined the report was a hoax, Fort Worth police said Thursday.

At 11:31 p.m. Saturday, a man living in the 9000 block of Legacy Drive near Loop 820 and White Settlement Road reported to police that his son received a dangerous Halloween treat and told officers who he thought had handed it out, according to police spokesman Sgt. Steve Enright and a police incident report.

The person identified by the father provided evidence contrary to what the father told police, including what kind of treats were actually distributed, Enright said.

“Detectives then conducted a search of the father’s residence, locating evidence consistent with what was in the Rice Krispies treat,” Enright said.

After the detectives interviewed the father again, he acknowledged that he had placed the razor blade in the store-bought Rice Krispies Treat.

The man will be charged with filing a false report, a Class B Misdemeanor. No other arrests are expected, Enright said.

The man’s name was not released because he had not been arrested by Thursday night, police said.

Fort Worth police still caution parents to check their children’s Halloween candy.
