Rain will be steady across DFW area on Friday

Friday morning’s commute was messy and the drive home probably won’t be much better.

Thunderstorms moved into North Texas early Friday and will continue as two other systems creep into the region this afternoon and overnight.

“So far, so good — or bad — depending on how you look at it,” said Mark Fox, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. “This is round 1. Round 2 is in West Texas and round 3 is back in New Mexico.”

Fox said it had rained .41 of an inch at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport by 8:30 a.m..

“It’s going to be off and on all day,” Fox said.

Because the ground is already saturated from last weekend’s band of storms, which dropped a record 7.57 inches at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport over three days, any areas that receive intense rain in short bursts could see flooding.

Fox said most areas, except for Navarro County, which was hammered with more than 25 inches of rain last weekend, can take the expected 1 to 2 inches.

“The flooding threat or risk is going to be on how heavy it rains at one time,” Fox said.

The latest round of the storms should move out by Saturday morning, clearing the way for a partly cloudy and cool Halloween, with temperatures in the 60s.

“Trick-or-treat should be OK,” Fox said.
