Teen hit by train in Joshua is critical

A 19-year-old male was in critical condition Monday night at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth after he was hit by a train earlier in the day, according to police.

The teenager was hit around 4:15 p.m. at a remote location a quarter of a mile north of the railroad crossing at 6th Street in Joshua, said Capt. Josh Lyon, the interim police chief for Joshua.

Crews on the BNSF Railway train saw him and tried to put on the emergency brakes, Lyon said.

CareFlite flew him to JPS in critical condition, he said.

Police are investigating why the teen was on the tracks.
