Wreck on I-35W in Burleson backs up freeway for miles
Traffic was backed up on Interstate 35W for miles Thursday evening after a pickup truck crashed in Burleson, resulting in a fuel spill.
The wreck was in northbound lanes, but about 5 p.m. southbound lanes were closed near the Alsbury Boulevard exit so a CareFlite helicopter could land to take the pickup driver to a hospital, a Burleson spokeswoman said.
The driver, who was pulled from his truck by a witness, was in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
At 7 p.m., first responders were still working at the crash scene and the inside lane of northbound Wilshire Boulevard and the inside lane of northbound I-35W remained closed, according to the city’s Facebook page.
State transportation department crews were called scene to clean a fuel spill, said Val Lopez, a department spokesman. Monica S. Nagy
