A body was found Monday night after firefighters extinguished a grass fire in east Fort Worth near Lake Arlington, authorities said.

Firefighters at a grass fire Monday night in far east Fort Worth found a badly burned body, police said Tuesday.

The “victim was burned beyond recognition,” Lt. Kathryn Rowell, a police spokeswoman, said in an email.

The body appears to be female, a spokesman for the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office said.

Patrol officers reported the grass fire about 11:50 p.m. in the 3500 block of South Cravens Road. The location, on the far western edge of Lake Arlington, is in a wooded and secluded area.
