TCU baseball player charged with DWI

A TCU baseball player who was arrested early Sunday was charged Monday with driving while intoxicated.

Connor Beck, 21, was driving a pickup when he was pulled over about 5 a.m. Sunday at 2500 Park Hill Drive, a few blocks northeast of TCU’s campus, according to a Fort Worth police report.

Beck, a redshirt sophomore outfielder for TCU, was arrested on suspicion of DWI and also is accused of resisting arrest and unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was released from jail later Sunday on $1,500 bail.

An initial court appearance is set for Oct. 9, county records show.

Beck was charged with DWI with a blood alcohol level above 0.15, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in county jail and a $4,000 fine, according to Tarrant County records. The legal limit of intoxication is 0.08. Beck’s exact blood alcohol level was not available Monday.

The Midland native played in 11 games last season and made one start for the Horned Frogs, who reached the College World Series for the second consecutive year. Beck went 3 for 15 with a double for the season.

This summer, he played for the Wareham (Mass.) Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

TCU athletics spokesman Mark Cohen said Beck has been suspended from the baseball program. TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle could not be reached for comment.
