Father, daughter arrested after bank robbery, high-speed chase

After a bank robbery on Thursday afternoon, a father and his teenage daughter led officers on a high-speed chase through two counties before they stopped in a Mansfield pasture, the Johnson County sheriff said.

Michael Bailey, 41, was arrested after a brief foot pursuit when the car went into a field and crashed near Davis Street in Mansfield, Sheriff Bob Alford said Thursday. His daughter, Megan Lynn Bailey, 19, was in the car when she was taken into custody.

“No injuries were reported,” Alford said Thursday. “But the teller was pretty shaken up.”

At 12:02 p.m. Thursday, a Johnson County dispatcher received a report of a robbery in progress at the Grandview Bank, 105 E. Criner St.

“A man had walked into the bank wearing a cap and a bandana,” Alford said. “He displayed a handgun and demanded money from a teller.”

After getting an undisclosed amount of money, the robber fled the bank, jumped into the driver’s seat of a Hyundai Genesis and drove away. His daughter was a passenger.

Grandview police officer Alberto Sanchez began the initial pursuit when he saw the suspect vehicle as he was driving near the bank. Johnson County deputies and police from Alvarado and Mansfield joined the chase a few minutes later.

Reaching speeds up to 150 mph, Bailey drove from Grandview to Alvarado to Venus and to U.S. 287 before crashing on Davis Street in Mansfield near Texas 360, authorities said. The chase went on for more than 30 miles.

Officers recovered a Smith & Wesson handgun at the scene, Alford said.

The car was registered to an owner in Mansfield, the sheriff said.

The Baileys were in the Johnson County Jail Thursday night. Michael Bailey faces charges of aggravated bank robbery and evading arrest. Bail was set at $510,000

Megan Bailey faces a charge of aggravated robbery. Bail was set at $25,000.
