Sheriff: Suspect kills himself in Aledo standoff
An armed man held authorities at bay at a residence for more than 12 hours late Wednesday and early Thursday before officers found that he had shot himself, Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said.
Chester Lee Martin, 54, of Weatherford was found dead in the home about 3:30 a.m. by officers with the Fort Worth SWAT unit.
Authorities said they believe Martin died from a gunshot wound to his head.
Officers were trying to serve multiple warrants. Martin was charged with 15 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of possession with intent to promote child pornography.
Officers with the Weatherford-Parker County Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team found Martin about 4 p.m. Wednesday at the home in the 1100 block of Becky Drive. He displayed a handgun and said he would “shoot the first officer that comes through the door” as he hid behind it, Fowler said in a news release.
Authorities backed out of the home, and officers with the Weatherford-Parker County Special Operations Group arrived a few minutes later and began negotiating with Martin. He told authorities that he was armed and refused to leave the residence.
Nearby homes were evacuated.
Fort Worth officers arrived early Thursday and took over negotiations. A few hours later, those officers went inside the home and found Martin.
He was arrested last year after authorities received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children accusing him of possessing child porn.
