Man killed in Fort Worth apartment knew his shooter
A robber was fatally shot in the head Tuesday afternoon after he and another man burst into an apartment in southwest Fort Worth demanding “everything,” a witness said.
Apartment resident Brad White, 21, said he was with his girlfriend and their month-old baby, along with a male roommate, when two men rushed in.
“They came in and started fighting us, trying to gouge our eyes out,” White said.
The roommate told the robbers to get out. One did, but the other refused, White said.
The roommate shot the robber once in the head.
“My friend didn’t hesitate — he knew I had a baby in there and he shot him,” White said.
The shooting was reported shortly after 1 p.m. at the Cameron Creek Apartments in the 5200 block of Bryant Irvin Road in the Cityview area of southwest Fort Worth.
White said it happened on the second floor of the 200s building.
Police did not identify the dead man, saying only that he was 35. The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office had not identified him late Tuesday. A woman was seen crying and being helped into a car as she left the scene Tuesday afternoon.
The man who shot the intruder was in the parking lot when police arrived, said officer Daniel Segura, a police spokesman.
“The suspect advised officers he had just shot the victim,” he said.
Fort Worth police had blocked off a section of the parking lot as people slowly started coming home from picking up children at school.
Segura said homicide detectives took one or two people to police headquarters downtown for interviews.
“Investigators do believe they are interviewing possible suspects and are not interviewing anyone else,” Segura said Tuesday night. “We are not looking for anybody specifically right now.”
He said the shooting was an isolated incident contained to the apartment.
Jessica Bryan, 21, said she also lives in the apartment. She said six people were inside, including the baby, when the two men burst in.
She knew the slain man, she said, and they all used to be friends.
“Over a week ago, when he was still our friend, he was flashing a 9 mm [handgun] in our faces,” Bryan said.
“We were trying to get the baby out,” Bryan said. “His blood was on me.”
Segura said no one had been arrested by late Tuesday.
