Shooting leads to standoff with Fort Worth police
A fight involving two groups Monday led to one woman being shot and a standoff with police that lasted for several hours, police said.
Fort Worth police provided little information.
Numerous patrol and SWAT officers could be seen outside the house in the 5300 block of Whitten Street for several hours. The street is in the Highland Hills neighborhood just west of Forest Hill.
The fight between “two groups” of people occurred earlier Monday at an unknown location, officer Daniel Segura, a police spokesman, wrote in an email. One of the groups relocated to the house and another fight occurred, during which the woman was shot, Segura said.
MedStar transported the wounded woman to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.
Police said repeatedly that the woman had “non-life-threatening” injuries.
The ambulance arrived at 2:48 p.m., and she was transported at 3:01 p.m., Zavadsky said.
The occupants of the house barricaded themselves inside. SWAT officers were called about 5 p.m.
Police were seen leading two women out of the house about 6 p.m. Segura said he wasn’t sure what their role was in the fighting, but they came out willingly after talking to negotiators.
Segura said SWAT left about 9:45 p.m. after they found no other people in the house. He would not elaborate.
The homeowner could not be reached for comment.
