The animal shelters in Fort Worth are overcapacity, and Animal Care and Control is urgently seeking adopters or fosters.

The Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care and Control center at 4900 Martin St. is caring for around 165 cats and kittens when it only has enclosures for 65, according to a press release from the city of Fort Worth.

In addition, Silcox has 422 dogs filling 321 kennels. As a result, many dogs are being held in outdoor temporary kennels.

Henry’s Animal Campus at 351 Hillshire Drive is also at capacity with 56 cats and kittens, and 250 large breed dogs.

To help support foster families, Animal Care and Control will provide “essential services” such as food, collars, leashes, and treats, the city said.

“By opening their homes, even temporarily, community members can make an immediate and meaningful difference for animals in need while helping the shelters continue to care for incoming pets,” the city said in its press release.
