Plans to upgrade Oncor substation in Fort Worth progress
A plan to upgrade and expand an Oncor substation in southeast Fort Worth is moving forward, records show.
Oncor applied for a commercial grading permit on June 15 for a site at 5621 Parker Henderson Road.
In March, the Fort Worth City Council approved a request from Oncor to rezone roughly 5 acres at that site to add two transformers to the substation and a wall on the north side of the property to abate noise.
The updates will “improve the reliability and service for the current and future customers and meet growing demand in the area,” according to paperwork filed with the city of Fort Worth.
Residents expressed concerns about potential health issues associated with the substation when Oncor went before the Fort Worth Zoning Commission and City Council earlier this year, but Oncor maintained that there are no known health hazards associated with the site according to its own environmental assessment.
According to a site plan shared with the zoning commission, Oncor also plans to replace the substation’s current equipment with newer, quieter infrastructure.
Construction is expected to begin within the next couple of months, an Oncor spokesperson said.
