Fort Worth Zoo asks public to vote on new baby giraffe’s name

The Fort Worth Zoo welcomed a new baby giraffe and is asking the public to vote on her name.

The Today Show opened the voting poll on June 15 and will announce the winning name on June 27.

The calf was born to giraffes Kala and Apollo. This baby is Kala’s 10th calf.

She was born on the evening of May 31. At birth, she weighed 152 pounds and measured 6 feet 2 inches tall.

The baby giraffe has been “bonding with her mother” this week and if the weather allows will make her debut in her habitat later this week, according to the Fort Worth Zoo.

The names to choose from are:

  • Kumi :“Swahili for 10, in honor of her being Kala’s 10th calf.”
  • Honey: “Because she’s sweet as can be!”
  • Iris: “A tribute to the native plant & flower.”
