Five Dallas County inmates were injured Tuesday morning when a transport van was hit from behind on Interstate 30 in Fort Worth, officials said.

The van was transporting inmates to the Dallas County Jail about 7 a.m. when it hit from behind on eastbound Interstate 30 at Eastchase Parkway, Dallas County Sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Five inmates were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, according to the release.

Four of the five inmates were released from the hospital and booked into the Dallas County jail. One inmate remained hospitalized for evaluation of an unrelated medical condition, the sheriff’s office said.

Fort Worth police investigated the crash and the roadway was cleared by 8:40 a.m., the release stated.
