Injured police civilian employee recovering, ‘in great spirits’ after shooting
The Fort Worth civilian police employee who was wounded Tuesday in a shooting on the city’s north side is recovering well and in “great spirits,” Police Chief Eddie Garcia said Wednesday.
Garcia, along with Mayor Mattie Parker, visited the injured employee at John Peter Smith Hospital, where he is recovering after being struck in the eye by shrapnel.
The Civilian Response Unit member is a 30-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Garcia said in a post on X.
Fort Worth police are “in the best hands with all the messages, phone calls and concerns for one of our team members,” Garcia wrote. “Thank you JPS Health for the amazing care you are providing.”
City Council member Charles Lauersdorf, who is also a Marine veteran, visited the injured man with other city employees after the shooting Tuesday.
“I have no doubt he will not only make a strong recovery, but will have quite the story to tell,” Lauersdorf wrote on Facebook Tuesday night. “Please keep all of our first responders in your thoughts, and never forget, no day is guaranteed.”
