Blizzard in Northeast causing flight cancellations across US, including DFW
The historic winter storm dumping up to 2 feet of snow in the Northeast is causing air travel havoc across the country.
Some 6,000 flights Monday have been cancelled as of 11 a.m., according to FlightAware. Travelers on 14,000 flights are seeing delays.
More than 50 flights out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and more than 60 inbound flights, have been cancelled as of Monday morning, which is about 5% of arrivals and departures. Dallas Love Field has seen only seven flights grounded so far.
Nationwide, Fort Worth-based American Airlines has cancelled more than 600 flights, or about 18% of its routes. Dallas-based Southwest has grounded nearly 300 of its scheduled flights. JetBlue, based at John F. Kennedy airport in New York, has been hit hardest among major airlines, scrapping 81% of flights.
Nearly all flights at major Northeast airports are cancelled, including 88% out of JFK and 98% at LaGuardia in New York.
Boston and Newark have cancelled more than 90% of flights. Reagan National in Washington is seeing 43% of flights cancelled.
