Parts of I-30 will shut down this weekend in Fort Worth. Where you may see delays
If you plan on driving on Interstate 30 in west Fort Worth this weekend, you may need to rethink your plans.
TxDOT is shutting down a stretch of I-30 in west Fort Worth to tear down the Longvue Avenue bridge over I-30, and the city says the work will close all main lanes in both directions in the surrounding area.
It’s part of a much larger rebuild of the corridor, but it’ll bring some slowdowns for anyone heading through that area from Friday night through Sunday.
Here’s what to know.
When will I-30 shut down?
Weather permitting, TxDOT will close I-30 in both directions from the I-820 West Loop to Chapel Creek Boulevard starting at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 until 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, according to an emailed news release from the City of Fort Worth.
The shutdown will give TxDOT crews room to tear down the RM 2871/Longvue Avenue bridge, which is being replaced as part of ongoing improvements along the corridor.
Once the old structure is removed, crews will begin building a new bridge.
The new bridge is expected to open in summer 2026.
How will traffic move around the weekend closure?
Through traffic will be routed to I-20 and I-820, which the city lists as the main detours for anyone passing through the area.
Local drivers will still be able to use the I-30 frontage roads, which will stay open during the demolition.
Several entrance and connector ramps will be blocked, including those at Chapel Creek Boulevard, Spur 580, Alemeda Street, and the northbound and southbound direct connectors from I-820 to westbound I-30.
Depending on traffic flow, the Cherry Lane and Las Vegas Trail ramps may also close.
What should I expect after the demolishing?
Even though the lanes reopen Sunday afternoon, construction along the corridor is far from over.
TxDOT will keep working on the new RM 2871 Longvue Avenue bridge and other improvements tied to the broader rebuild, which means more lane shifts and temporary closures are possible as the project progresses through 2026.
