The Fort Worth Police Department added a new Air One helicopter to its Air Support Unit on Tuesday.

Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia and Mayor Mattie Parker introduced the Bell 505 at Meacham International Airport and then went for a spin around the city in the new helicopter.

The Bell 505 is one of two in the department’s Air Support Unit fleet. The helicopters patrol the skies above Fort Worth and help officers with pursuits and in locating stolen vehicles and missing persons, among other tasks.

“This isn’t just a new helicopter…it’s an investment in public safety,” Garcia said on X.

The Fort Worth Police Department has been operating Bell aircraft since 1968, according to a news release from the company.

“All of us at Bell value our long-standing relationships with the city of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Police Department, and we are proud to be a partner in supporting the city’s public safety initiatives and advancing the department’s impact with this added capability,” Bell chief commercial officer and incoming CEO Danny Maldonado said in the release.
