A 45-year-old woman was critically injured Monday afternoon when her car crashed into a train near Haslet, authorities said.

A woman was critically injured Monday afternoon when her car was hit by a train in far north Fort Worth, authorities said.

The 45-year-old woman had to be extricated from her vehicle, then was flown by helicopter ambulance to a local hospital, said Matt Zavadsky, a MedStar spokesman said Monday.

Authorities did not identify the woman.

Firefighters went to the scene shortly before 12:30 p.m. near Business U.S. 287 and Hicks Avondale School Road in unincorporated Tarrant County. Haslet and Fort Worth firefighters responded.

The driver tried to go through the railroad crossing and was hit by the train, firefighter Kyle Clark, a Fire Department spokesman, said Monday.

“There is an arm crossing there,” Haslet Fire Chief Kirt Mays said Monday. “They were down when we arrived on the scene, but I don’t know if they were that way when she tried to cross.”

The train dragged the car about 500 feet before it stopped, Mays said.

No other injuries were reported.
