Which Fort Worth services are open Thanksgiving? Info on trash, public transit

With grocery stores and liquor stores closing or changing hours for the Thanksgiving holiday in North Texas, you may be wondering about the City of Fort Worth’s holiday hours.

While most people will be spending the day watching the Dallas Cowboys, eating Thanksgiving dinner with their families until they are stuffed, there are a few City of Fort Worth services open on the holiday. However, there are a few changes to trash schedules and mail operations in the city.

Thanksgiving falls on Nov. 27 this year. Here’s the City of Fort Worth’s holiday schedule.

Is Fort Worth City Hall open on Thanksgiving?

No. Most City of Fort Worth offices, including City Hall, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, as well as Friday, Nov. 28.

Emergency services, such as police and fire, will still be available, as usual.

Is trash pickup different on Thanksgiving in Fort Worth?

Residential garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk collections will have a slight delay. Thursday collections will be picked up on Friday, Nov. 28 and Friday collections will be picked up on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The City’s four Drop-Off Stations and the Environmental Collection Center will also be closed on Thanksgiving and Friday, Nov. 28. If you need assistance, you can call 817-392-1234.

Are post offices open on Thanksgiving in Fort Worth?

No. U.S. Postal Service offices are closed on Thanksgiving, and there will be no regular mail delivery.

Operations will resume on Friday, Nov. 28.

Is public transportation running in Fort Worth on Thanksgiving?

Not fully. Trinity Metro buses service will run on their Sunday schedules.

Trinity Metro TEXRail and On-Demand rideshare will operate on their regular schedules.

The Trinity Railway Express (TRE), TRE LINK and CentrePort Circulator will not operate on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27.

If you need help, customer service representatives will be available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 817-215-8600. The kiosk at Fort Worth Central Station will be closed.

Are Fort Worth libraries open on Thanksgiving?

No. All library locations will be closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28, with reduced hours on Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m .to 3 p.m. Normal operations resume Saturday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m.

Are community centers and recreation sites open on Thanksgiving?

Community centers, the Haws Athletic Center, and Log Cabin Village will all be closed, as well as the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, Fort Worth Water Gardens, Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, Marine Park Pool and Forest Park Pool.

Some outdoor and recreation spots remain open for holiday fun, including city golf courses and McLeland Tennis Center. The tennis center will be open in the morning from 7:30 until 10:30 a.m. The Meadowbrook Golf Course will host a turkey shoot starting at 8:30 a.m.

Can I pay my Fort Worth water bill on Thanksgiving?

Yes, but only through the automated system. Residents can make payments, manage accounts, or report emergencies by calling the 24-hour water call center at 817-392-4477.
