Fort Worth motorcyclist dies in weekend crash on South Freeway

Speed was a factor in a fatal traffic accident Friday night that killed a motorcyclist on the South Freeway, police said Sunday.

The 48-year-old motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle hit a car and he was thrown off his motorcycle, police said. Several other vehicles hit the motorcyclist as he was on the highway, police said.

The victim was identified as Luther Coleson, 48, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office website on Sunday. Officials did not list a hometown for Coleson, but Tarrant County publice records showed he had lived in Fort Worth.

The crash was reported at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 9500 block of the South Freeway (Interstate 35W) near W. Risinger Road.

The motorcyclist hit a Kia causing Coleson to be thrown off his motorcycle, police said.

The north and south bound lanes were closed for more than four hours as authorities investigated the wreck.
